Objective:
The Sustainable Forest Management Working Group of the Canadian Council of Forest Ministers (CCFM) is responsible for fostering inter-jurisdictional cooperation in addressing issues and developing specific initiatives related to sustainable forest management (SFM) in Canada. With an estimated forest cover of 402.1 million hectares, Canada possesses an abundant and valuable natural resource. In addition to their economic value, Canada's forests are of great importance to all Canadians. Practising SFM has been on Canada's agenda for many years, and within the last decade, Canada has become a world leader in this field.
The CCFM views SFM in a social, environmental and economic context. It is committed to increasing federal, provincial, and territorial cooperation on initiatives such as the National Forest Strategy and the Canadian Criteria and Indicators Framework.
